Seven writers walked into a bar. It’s not a joke; that really happened. At some point, an eighth guy showed up, charmed his way in, and that was the start of what we now call… 

 

Little Histories…

A Hudson Valley–based writing collective dedicated to creating and sharing stories with each other and our communities. 

What began as a casual meetup of writers workshopping over drinks at the Hudson Valley Brewery has grown into a collaborative, community-forward group whose output spans zines (featuring local artists), typewriter poetry, live readings, comedy showcases, workshops, and creative events of all kinds.

Maybe you’ve seen us around:

  • Typing poems for strangers and making new friends cry (in a good way!) at the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Annual Gala, the Chronogram Reader’s Choice Party and Summer Arts Preview, the New York Stage & Film Festival, Peekskill Pride, the Woodstock Film Festival Filmmaker Party, the Kingston Farmers Market, or your friend’s wedding

  • Sharing poetry and prose on stage at the New York Poetry Festival, Super Secret Projects, Binnacle Books, and many other locations in and around Upstate New York and NYC

  • At our inaugural spooky-season art gallery showcase, DON’T GO IN THERE, Allen and Gracie’s Holiday Comedy Variety Show at Savage Wonder Arts Center, or at an “Open Mic-ish” Workshop event with Actual Community

  • Selling zines and merch around the HV, including at Gunks Gaming Guild, the Beacon Art Book & Zine Fair, and with the Hudson Valley Zine Machine at Camp Kingston

At our core, our mission is to bring people together, create opportunities, offer education, and use storytelling to remind ourselves about the good parts of being human. 

In our first year of existence, Little Histories has collaborated with Hudson Valley–based arts organizations and festivals, and shown up across the state (and beyond) wherever stories are welcome.
